The Wales Gene Park is funded through a grant to Cardiff University from the Welsh Assembly Government.  The Knowledge Exploitation Fund has provided significant investment in technology platforms to support the work of the Wales Gene Park.

In addition to undertaking its core programmes the Wales Gene Park can support genetics researchers in Wales and elsewhere through access to its facilities for genomics and transgenics.  Details of services and contacts can be found on this website under 'Facilities'.

The key activities of the Wales Gene Park are:
• Putting Wales at the forefront of genetics research
• Identifying the genetic causes of disease
• Translating research into medical practice
• Commercialisation and innovation
• Professional education
• Stimulating public debate of genetics issues
• Ethics and the societal impact of genetics
